After seeing one of our favorite local artisans, Middle Kingdom, featured in one of our favorite showrooms at High Point Market in April (more on that next week!) we have been inspired to run a few posts showcasing some of our favorite local shops, artists, and creators working to make the DMV beautiful. We're kicking things off with the center of it all - Washington, DC!

Without question, one of our all-time favorite places to shop for ourselves and others in DC is Salt & Sundry. Owner Amanda McClements opened this cheerful oasis in November 2012 to "share her love of cooking, entertaining and design". They feature a number of local artisans as well as other carefully curated, regularly changing pieces intended to "make your own home more of what you dream it to be". All of these treasures are beautifully displayed in two immaculately designed "urban bohemian" storefronts in Urban Market and Logan Circle that just exude a stylish, California cool vibe that we are crushing on so hard.

Another great place to pick up adorable accessories, tasty treats, and kitchen wares is Shop Made in DC. This delightful little shop is located in Dupont Circle and is "a concept store and cafe celebrating our vibrant local maker movement in a partnership with the DC Department of Small and Local Business". They showcase a wide assortment of DC based artists and makers and provide them with a gorgeous storefront from which to sell their locally-made pieces. They even hold regular events for you to meet the makers, take classes from them, and try some of the fabulous local foods that are featured in the cafe.
*PRO TIP: Shop Made In DC events are perfect for date night!*

To wrap up the DC segment of our #shoplocal series we had to shine a spotlight on a dear friend of LFID, Maggie O'Neill. Maggie is a spectacular artist who has been featured in numerous publications and was named the official artist of the 2018 National Cherry Blossom Festival. She is best known for her bold use of color in her work which is inspired by "local landscapes and cultural icons, her travels abroad, notable women, and fashion". This summer Maggie is hosting a Pop Up Experience in Dupont Circle celebrating the joy and color of summer. Stop by her site for more info and then go check it out!!
