Can you believe that summer is almost over?!? It feels like we were just rejoicing over the return of warm weather and now all of a sudden the kids are back in school, the days are getting shorter, and the pools are closing up for the year. So, we figured we should have one last hurrah before fully accepting that it's time to transition over to an autumn mindset. On that note, here are the LFID quick and easy pointers for sending off summer the right way with a lovely Labor Day shindig!

1. Get Festive
We know that summer is almost over and you likely don't want to shell out a ton of money on fancy summer themed party supplies that you'll use once but it's also a great time to get some fantastic deals on things that you can use next year! Pop by your favorite party supply or housewares store and see what fun items they have on closeout that you can use to decorate for your gathering. You have to send off the summer in style, after all!

2. Stay Fresh
Even though the summer growing season is rapidly wrapping up, you can still get plenty of gorgeous fresh flowers and tasty fresh produce both for decoration and for eating. A simple centerpiece of assorted flowers in a cute vase immediately takes your table from bland to beautiful.
Make sure to visit your local farmers market and see what kind of bounty you can find for your gathering. It's a great place for a pleasant morning stroll to pick up locally grown & sourced produce and other goods. Don't know where you nearest farmers market is? The Washington Post has an excellent guide to help you out!

3. Life's a Beach
What better way to bid farewell to summer than near the water? It's likely one of your last chances to get waterfront so take advantage! Even if you can't make the trek all the way out to the shore, there are still plenty of lakes and rivers in the area where you can meet up with some friends and family to drink up some rays and dip your toes in the water one more time. Rock Creek Park and Great Falls Park both have great picnic areas and are super convenient. As another option, find a friend with a pool and make use of it before it closes!

4. Drink Up!
It's still pretty toasty out so drink up to keep cool. Whether your preferred beverage to toast summer is a margarita (we LOVE this one from Once Upon a Chef!), glass of rose (District Winery is having a rose sale through Labor Day!), a frosty lager (check out The 1500 by Atlas Brew Works), or just a nice cold pitcher of lemonade, having a lovely bar set up for your guests to quench their thirst is always hospitable and appreciated. Some pretty glasses and serving vessels help to provide the perfect display for your well-curated and locally sourced beverage selection.
The LFID team will be taking full advantage of the last little bit of summer next week so you won't be seeing a Fox Tales post but we will be back the following week with all kinds of fun new things for our Foxy Faithful. In the meantime, Have Fun and Stay Foxy!
Xoxo
