After years of debating a kitchen overhaul, this DC couple decided that it was time to give their existing kitchen and dining room a full face-lift to help the main level of their three story Victorian feel complete and perfect for entertaining. Laura helped them to embrace their “Coastal Chic” style while basing the design around functionality, gaining storage where possible, and keeping the space light, bright, and happy.

The kitchen revamp was officially a go when the client fell in love with one remaining slab of quartzite at Flintstone Marble & Granite in Rockville, MD. Once she saw and had to have this particular slab it was full steam ahead on the renovation. Laura quickly brought in kitchen designer extraordinaire, Hedy Shashaani of Jack Rosen Custom Kitchens to help with the kitchen design. Together, the pair came up with a plan to maximize storage, give the kitchen a modern edge, and free up some counter space.

A flawless White Fantasy Quartzite countertop, upgraded stainless steel appliances, glass cabinets with a beautiful mullion detail, sleek hardware, and a gorgeous trellis pattern on the custom Roman shade by Gretchen Everett were all key components in making the kitchen feel as fresh and airy as a sea breeze.

That lightness was then carried through to the dining room where a misty gray wall served as the backdrop to ivory, Sunbrella upholstered chairs around a cream and grey table. Laura paired these neutral pieces with an ultra chic silver etagere for a hint of glam and covered it with delftware to add a gorgeous pop of color and texture. Gretchen Everett's stunning trellis-print window treatments were reworked as a cornice in this space as well for the finishing touch.

Pairing a classic white sideboard by Suzanne Kasler for Hickory Chair with fabulous navy accessories, another pop of delft, and a very playful piece of art completed this stunning transformation.

While this lovely little kitchen and dining room renovation wasn't on the same scale as last week's #urbanfarmhouse renovation, it turned out so wonderfully bright and uplifting that it was a complete breath of fresh air to work on and see that progression.
