When Laura got a call from the aunt and uncle of a friend of hers, asking for help designing their family room and screened room she knew immediately that this would be a fun project.
The couple welcomed Laura into their home and hearts with open arms and have since been some of the biggest champions of her work, proudly displaying any magazines featuring her and making sure to point them out to any and all friends who stop by. The main space that this delightful pair wanted Laura's help with was their family room. Now that their three sons were grown and off starting their own lives, the couple decided that it was time to invest in making their main "hangout area" as cozy as possible. They wanted it to be cheerful and welcoming for guests while also providing ample seating for when the family was all home together.

Laura reworked the layout of the space by adding a large sectional that would accommodate the entire crew along with a lively pop of color in the custom upholstery on the armchair. The lady of the house is a big fan of birds and bright, happy colors so she was absolutely thrilled by this piece. One of her other favorite parts of the design was the addition of a gallery wall behind the sofa that gave them a place to display all of their family photos from over the years.

The couple already had these gorgeous, faux finished built-ins that weren't being fully utilized. Laura worked with them to pull in elements from the rest of the home along with a few hand-selected accessories and updated hardware to add life and function to these fabulous storage units.

The final adjustment that Laura made to the family room was this little vignette in the back corner next to the built-in wet bar that had essentially been dead space before. Here the couple could enjoy coffee and a newspaper or cocktails and company.

There was one additional space that the couple wanted help with. They had refinished the furniture in their screened room fairly recently but were unhappy with the results. Laura decided to embrace the flexibility of an outdoor space by going bold and having a little fun. A fresh coat of paint and some bright accessories gave it that extra oomph that it was looking for.
This was such an enjoyable project that we were honestly a little sad when it was finished. We're looking forward to hopefully working with them again down the road. Laura brought in pops of color throughout this project to up the "bold" factor - what would you do in your home to make it more bold? Comment below!
